The most beautiful Christmas markets of 2024 to see in Alsace (and around)

Alsace may have some of the most famous Christmas markets in France, but the tradition extends to the whole of eastern France, where the legend of Santa Klaus (Saint Nicholas) is most alive.

So, at the end of this article, we take you to the Vosges, Lorraine and Franche-Comté, with a selection of the most beautiful Christmas events to discover during an Advent getaway.

What's the best Christmas market in Alsace?

Alsace's charms are on display all year round, as we saw on our trip along the wine route, but Christmas is a very special time of year in the region.

The half-timbered houses, the illuminated facades, the smells of gingerbread and mulled wine in the Christmas villages create a truly magical atmosphere.

The best Christmas markets: Colmar or Strasbourg?

The Christmas markets in Strasbourg, Colmar and Kaysersberg are the most popular. We admit to having a soft spot for Colmar and Kaysersberg, which are more authentic than Strasbourg.

But that's no reason to forget all the little nuggets elsewhere in Alsace and the rest of eastern France!
